OBA Global Citizens Limited has officially launched the Farmers Digital ID Card, a transformative initiative designed to provide smallholder farmers with a secure and verifiable digital identity within Nigeria’s agri-food ecosystem.
The Farmers Digital ID Card addresses a critical gap faced by millions of farmers who remain invisible in formal systems due to the lack of recognized identification. Through this initiative, farmers are digitally registered and issued a unique ID that validates their identity, farm profile, production activities, and participation in sustainable agricultural practices.
The Digital ID Card serves as more than an identification tool. It is a gateway to financial inclusion, access to markets, climate-smart support, and development interventions. With a verified digital identity, farmers can more easily engage with government programs, financial institutions, off-takers, insurers, donors, and agribusiness partners.
Each Farmers Digital ID is linked to a secure digital database that captures essential information such as farm location, crop type, farm size, sustainability practices, and participation in initiatives like FarmFood4All. This enables data-driven decision-making, traceability across the food value chain, and improved targeting of support services.
The initiative aligns with OBA Global Citizens’ commitment to advancing inclusive digital transformation, food security, climate resilience, and sustainable development. By empowering farmers with digital identity, the organization is strengthening transparency, accountability, and trust across the agricultural value chain.
According to OBA Global Citizens, the Farmers Digital ID Card is a foundational step toward building a digitally enabled, climate-smart, and inclusive agri-food system where farmers are recognized not just as producers, but as key stakeholders in national and global development.
The rollout of the Farmers Digital ID Card will continue in collaboration with farmer associations, cooperatives, government agencies, development partners, and the private sector, ensuring scalability and long-term impact.
OBA Global Citizens remains committed to ensuring that no farmer is left behind in the digital economy.
