Oba Global Citizen Africa Signs Strategic MoU to Strengthen Nigeria’s Ginger Value Chain

Kaduna, Nigeria | 13th December 2025

Saturday, 13th December 2025, marked a defining moment for Nigeria’s agricultural future, as key stakeholders converged in Kaduna for the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and the inauguration of the Kaduna, Plateau, and Nasarawa State Chapters of the National Ginger Association of Nigeria (NGAN).

At the center of this historic occasion was Oba Global Citizen Africa, which formally entered into a strategic partnership with the Masydonia Ginger Farmers Association of Nigeria, a subsidiary of NGAN. This collaboration represents more than a ceremonial agreement; it is a decisive step toward restoring confidence, resilience, and sustainability within Nigeria’s ginger industry.

Nigeria proudly ranks among the top three ginger producers globally, alongside China and India, and is widely recognized for the superior quality of its produce. Yet this position has come under serious threat in recent years. Widespread outbreaks of ginger blight disease—exacerbated by extreme and unpredictable weather conditions—have devastated farming communities across key producing regions. In some areas, yield losses have reached up to 90 percent, contributing to industry losses estimated at over ₦12 billion in 2023 alone.

Behind these figures are thousands of smallholder farmers whose livelihoods, incomes, and futures have been placed at risk.

Through its flagship FarmFood4All initiative, Oba Global Citizen Africa is responding with urgency, innovation, and purpose. The initiative delivers practical, data-driven, climate-smart solutions designed to support smallholder farmers and strengthen resilience across the ginger value chain.

By deploying advanced climate-smart technology tools, FarmFood4All provides real-time insights into crop health, including early detection of potential disease outbreaks, soil moisture monitoring, and crop stress assessment across farmlands. These insights are translated into timely, targeted advisories that enable farmers to make informed decisions—from selecting disease-resistant seed varieties to optimizing irrigation and applying interventions precisely when they are most effective.

This approach shifts farming from a reactive struggle to a proactive system of resilience. It empowers farmers to act quickly, reduce losses, enhance yields, and adapt more confidently to climate pressures—while protecting both livelihoods and long-term productivity.

The partnership with the Masydonia Ginger Farmers Association and the National Ginger Association of Nigeria reflects a shared conviction that sustainable agriculture must be built on collaboration, innovation, and farmer-centered solutions. It also reinforces Oba Global Citizen Africa’s broader commitment to advancing food security, strengthening rural economies, and restoring Nigeria’s standing in global agricultural markets.

As Nigeria confronts the intersecting challenges of climate change, food insecurity, and agricultural vulnerability, initiatives such as FarmFood4All demonstrate what is possible when purpose-driven partnerships meet technology-enabled action.

Oba Global Citizen Africa remains steadfast in its mission to work alongside farmers, institutions, and communities to co-create solutions that are scalable, inclusive, and resilient—ensuring that Nigeria’s agricultural heritage not only endures, but thrives for generations to come.
